Choosing your wedding decor
After choosing a wedding venue, do consider the surrounding furnishings and décor when deciding your wedding decorations. Colourful wedding flowers at the Sir Christopher Wren hotel work well in the Princess Suite because the curtains and carpets are strong in colouring. Otherwise, choose white flowers as shown in the ceremony image below.
Wedding decor tip:
After deciding upon bright colourful wedding flowers for the reception, Michelle decided to drape chiffon over the curtains at the venue as she wanted a more neutral setting for her wedding reception. In addition, she decided to conceal the pictures with her own wedding themed “pictures”.
How did Michelle do this? Large white paper tablecloths were cut to the size of each picture frame and were white tacked in place. Michelle asked her friend Deb (my namesake!) who is great at crafts to help with the project and her special Cricut machine was used to produce the lovely rose gold foil images and text that were glued to the paper inside each frame. It cost about £50 for the materials but involved quite a few hours effort.
The result was excellent, and the new “pictures” transformed the wall space into a wedding themed back drop – Michelle was so happy with the result.

The Beginning…
I am now going to take you back to the start of this wedding story – Michelle and Dave met at a friend’s party and after a surprise 30th birthday holiday in Vegas that Michelle had organised for Dave, they flew straight to a lodge in Lochness, Scotland, which they had frequented many times before.
Thinking that the Sottish trip was a family celebration for Dave’s 30th, Michelle was reluctant to go on a walk to a waterfall as she was feeling rather jet lagged. After some persuasion from Dave’s brother (he was in on the secret) Michelle accompanied the rest of the family to the waterfall (they both love) and it was here that Dave proposed.
The Bride’s Bouquet and Wedding Dress
So onto the big day itself. I was in close contact with Michelle all the way through leading up to her wedding and although colourful wedding flowers and greenery were preferred for the reception at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, Michelle chose white flowers for her neatish shower bouquet. Flowers included calla lilies, white roses, white lissianthus and gypsophila.

Michelle actually bought two wedding dresses! She had a vision in mind but after finding the perfect match and buying it, she realised the dress was not really her style and didn’t flatter her in the right places. Even though David preferred this first dress, the one she ended up wearing was from Wed2be and interestingly, was the most reasonable of the two, price wise https://www.wed2b.co.uk/
Tip: Michelle wore the dress she felt most comfortable in and I think that is so important. Whatever you wear, your pleasure in wearing it radiates around you.
The Bridesmaids
Michelle had eight (yes, eight) bridesmaids and three flower girls. In fact it was originally seven bridesmaids but I then got a call from Julia, a friend of Michelle’s. Julia had planned the extra bridesmaid as a surprise and it was Michelle’s best friend from Australia. Only Julia knew she was coming so it must have been the best wedding present ever!
The bridesmaid’s bouquets were made of colourful cerise, peach, white and purple flowers with gypsophila. Check out the reception flowers below and you will see the different flower varieties we used here.
Wedding Ceremony at the Guildhall
After getting married at the Guildhall (famous for celebrity and royal weddings), David drove Michelle back to the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel in his Rolls Royce golf buggy.
The couple and their guests then went on a river trip and had photos taken on the Long Walk and Eton Bridge. These are both near to where Michelle lives, lucky girl.

Back at the hotel, the reception suite had received plenty of attention already but we also added table centrepieces and top table decorations using those colourful wedding flowers we spoke about earlier. Our shabby chic cream metal stands held arrangements of foliage with peach Alchemy roses, ivory roses, purple lissianthus, pink dendrobium orchids, cerise nerines and gypsophila – a veritable “feast” of colour!
We placed a long and low arrangement of similar flowers on the Top table along with two smaller arrangements. Then vases were placed for the bridesmaid’s bouquets and lots of champagne gold tea light holders were set in between.
The couple had their first dance to “Thinking out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. Gosh, the words to that song are filled with passion and I truly hope that David and Michelle still love each other when they are 70!
