The Meeting and Consultation

Roxanne and Keegan married in the Tithe Barn at The Olde Bell, Hurley on the 12th April 2019. I met Roxanne at the Olde Bell wedding fair where she and Keegan were rather taken with a design I was showcasing. It included a greenery ring coupled with cylinder vases, white roses submerged in water and floating candles.

After chatting with them about how we could alter this design for her tastes, I later met with Roxanne and Monique, her bridesmaid. We were able to discuss their thoughts in detail regarding spring wedding flower arrangements and decorations.

The Wedding Bouquets

Roxanne’s bouquet was one that I consider to be a real triumphs – I loved and would have wanted it myself. Although I love all flowers, and all my designs are bespoke, a bride’s taste is very personal to them and doesn’t necessarily match my own taste exactly. But this was spot on!

Roxanne wanted a shower bouquet that included a lot of spring wedding flowers and mixed greenery. It was arranged in a relaxed style with white roses, lissianthus and freesia. The three bridesmaids (who wore pastel coloured dresses from Chi Chi London) carried hand tied white bouquets with foliage. Lastly, the flower girls wore Alice bands with rose buds.

The Wedding Venue

The Olde Bell is an old coaching inn dating from 1135 AD with an equally long-standing reputation for good food and hospitality.  In fact, word has it that in 1890, the inn keeper used to stand at the door every Sunday handing out a glass of sherry to every attending church member. That would be a nice tradition to resurrect! Meanwhile, the staff, including Alice and Gabriela of the weddings team, will look after your every need and always with a friendly smile.

The Wedding Ceremony

The focus for the ceremony, aside from Roxanne in her amazing wedding dress by Wed2Be, was the wooden heptagons Keegan had made himself for the the day.

The biggest heptagon formed a backdrop for the ceremony. Three more then adorned the Table Seating Plan, the Order of the Day and the Gifts. We decorated all the heptagons with spring wedding flowers, mixed foliage and twisted willow.

I have decorated wedding arches and arbors before but the heptagons were a first for us! Keegan did a great job of creating them, and they fitted perfectly with the rustic surroundings of the Tithe Barn.

The Wedding Reception Decorations

Roxanne put her own personal spin on the table centrepiece design I’d shown at the fair. She included copper lanterns and log slices. Roxanne decided to provide the log slices, copper lanterns and mini copper lights herself, and I wound these through the greenery ring.

The size of the ring was important to Roxanne (not the wedding ring I might add!) because she wanted a centrepiece with impact. I was able to mock-up the design at a later wedding fair to reassure her we were on the same page. This times time it included white flowers and twigs.

Top Tip:

Providing some of your own decorations can help to keep costs down. It also helps to make arrangements very personal to you. My clients often like to choose and buy their own pieces when they have specific ideas in mind.

The Wedding Cake

The semi naked cake was made beautifully by Verity Rose Cakes. They then decorated it with some populus eucalyptus and roses, supplied by me. The cake topper was from Dindindies. It was a perfect reflection of the heptagon and copper styling Roxanne had chosen.  You really don’t need to have a complicated design on a wedding cake to achieve maximum effect!

Top Tip:

Roxanne was thrilled with our interpretation of her thoughts and that we were able to deliver to budget.  It’s much easier to meet a budget if the client is not specific regarding the flower varieties and colour palettes. For example, matching to the colour of bridesmaid dresses will decrease the colour shades available to us and therefore can increase price.

A Word of Thanks…

“We highly recommend The Garden Room if you are considering them for your wedding/event. Debby was an incredible lady to work with. Not only did she reply quickly to emails (of which there was many), meet with us and do mock-ups of our flowers but what she presented on the day was absolutely breath taking. The flowers were the highlight of the day and gave us that little bit extra! We were bombarded with our guest telling us how beautiful all the flowers were. The Garden Room is professional, friendly and, most of all, bring such a love and care when working together that it brings a real sense of family. Thank you for everything Debby!”
