A heatwave was upon us and we had to batten down the hatches in The Garden Room to keep the flowers cool and at their best for Anna and Mark's wedding day.

Anna is not a “frilly” girl and wanted classic whites and greens for her flowers.  We have many photographs to show our brides and often they pick something and then introduce elements to reflect their own taste.  In Anna’s case, she chose a white hydrangea bouquet interspersed with white bouvardia and freesia but we replaced the silver leaf sennecio collar with soft green hosta leaves.  For table arrangements we settled on a mix of white hydrangeas, roses, lissianthus, bupleurum, rosemary and eucalyptus set in glass vases on mirror plates - fresh looking and delicate.

The evening before the wedding Tracy and I set off for Duffield House in Stoke Poges, the setting for the ceremony and reception.  Duffield House was built in the late 1860’s and is now a conference and events facility, providing exclusive use facility for your wedding.  Mark, Hazel and the team are excellent hosts and Sam makes sure all runs smoothly in the dining room on the day.

Anna and Mark’s ceremony was to be conducted outside in the delightful gazebo on the lawn surrounded by beds of English country flowers.   To enhance the setting Tracy and I created a pair of large flower displays in whites and soft pinks set in country style urns on plinths which were placed either side of the gazebo.

How fortunate were we to find Brendon, Anna’s dad on hand to place a couple of paving slabs on which to set the urns - a must we decided to ensure a stable base.   Anna, her mum and friends were busy with table favours and we had a last minute chance to wish Anna all our best for the day ahead.

The day of the wedding following our hottest summer’s day was still hot but a storm was on its way!

You might know but hydrangeas just don’t do heat and oasis so it was with a sense of relief that we found the urn arrangements looking good where we had left them overnight at Duffield House.

Having dressed the wedding breakfast room at Duffield House, we moved the urns and plinths to the gazebo whilst the staff set up the guest chairs.  We freshened the flowers with water sprays and dunked a couple of the hydrangeas in water to perk them up – this gave everything the desired lift in readiness for the ceremony.

We missed the rest of course but had a lovely text message from Anna later that day “Thank you for your kind words and all of your patience.  I appreciate all that you have done for us Debby – you have definitely gone above and beyond.   The flowers look amazing.”

The weather was truly glorious and the storm?  Well it waited until 2pm when Anna, Mark and their guests were inside enjoying a wonderful meal of Salmon Parcels, Rump of Beef with a peppercorn and mushroom sauce followed by apple tart with calvados ice cream and apple tuile.

We know the guests celebrated until late in the evening to music by Windsor Jazz and Ana’s uncle’s band, Juice of the Barley and then a disco to follow. The bride and groom’s first dance was to 'You are the best thing' by Ray Lamontagne.  Anna and Mark also managed to see Ray himself perform the same song live at a festival in San Francisco on their honeymoon so that really was the icingon the cake!

Anna and Mark actually started their honeymoon in Vegas but then hired a car and drove to La Jolla working their way up to San Francisco, stopping at different places en route. It was a real adventure apparently!

This was a very longed for wedding and it was more important than ever for it to be the wonderful day it turned out to be – congratulations Mr and Mrs Evans, we wish you loads of happiness for your future together.

We would like to thank Faye Cornhill Photography for some of the beautiful images they contributed to this feature.

Kind words from the bride:

 Hi Debby

I have been meaning to email you to say a big thank you. The flowers you did for our wedding were absolutely wonderful. Many of our guests commented on the urn arrangements and my bouquet. They were just what I wanted. Thank you for all of the hard work you put in and also for your flexibility when we cancelled our wedding last year. It meant a lot to us.

Thank you again for all of your help. I won't hesitate to recommend you to anyone I know looking for a florist.

Best wishes
